Wanderer’s Trust Scholarship Fund

The Wanderer’s Trust Scholarship Fund is available to students with mobility impairments (preference for those with spinal cord injuries) who are residing in Atlantic Canada. 

Amount:The maximum value of the scholarship will depend on number of applications received.

The Wanderer’s Amateur Athletic Club was, by far, the most distinguished athletic Club in Halifax. Comprised of great athletes and members, the club became known throughout North America. When it was disbanded, the remaining members donated some of its assets to Canadian Paraplegic Association (Nova Scotia) herein known as CPA (NS) to provide funding for students with a spinal cord injury who are involved in some aspect of sport.

Criteria

Eligible applicants must meet ALL requirements listed below:

  1. Must be living with a mobility disability.
  2. Must use a wheelchair for mobility.
  3. Preference given to person living with a spinal cord injury (quadriplegia or paraplegia).
  4. Reside in Atlantic Canada.
  5. Currently attending or planning to attend a post-secondary institution in the Atlantic Provinces.
  6. Canadian Citizens or Landed Immigrant.
  7. Involved in organized sports either as a participant, official, junior official, coach, manager or trainer.
  8. Have a minimum of a “C” average.

The scholarships will be awarded on merit, academic standing and on such other criteria as the Selection Committee may determine.

Application forms can be obtained by visiting www.thespine.ca or by contacting CPA (NS) at 902-423-1277 or 1-800-889-1889. Completed applications, along with supporting documents, must be received by September 30th, annually. Applicants can reapply.

Please include:

  • Two references (these do not necessarily have to be from an employer, past or present)
  • Written confirmation of disability from a doctor or specialist is required.
  • An Official Transcript must be sent for the most recent year of study.
  • A letter of acceptance from the post secondary institution you plan to attend must be attached.
