Making a Difference Award

The Making a Difference Award is open to students in specific programs at Carleton University who have a physical disability.

Amount: $5000, renewable

Number Available: up to 4

Applications Open: May 1st annually

Deadline: August 31st annually

This award is renewable at $5000 for the second, third, and fourth year of undergraduate study if the recipient maintains full-time enrolment (minimum of 4.0 credits over the Fall/Winter session) in an eligible undergraduate degree program and remains in good academic standing. If the award is lost in one year, it cannot be regained in subsequent years.

This award was established in 2019 by Daryl Rock BA/86, MA/88.

Criteria

Applicant must:

  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (landed immigrant or protected person)
  • have a documented permanent physical disability
  • be registered with the PMC
  • be entering first year of an undergraduate degree program in one of the following:
    • Faculty of Engineering
    • Faculty of Science
    • Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs
    • Bachelor of Commerce program
  • be enrolled full-time
  • demonstrate academic excellence, community service, leadership and commitment to making a difference in your larger communities

Awarded on the recommendation of the Director of the Paul Menton Centre

How to Apply

  • Fill out the Making a Difference Award application form
  • Include in the application the following 3 components:
    • a description of your academic and future goals and how attending Carleton University will assist you in achieving them (maximum 100 words)
    • one letter of recommendation
    • a submission describing how you have demonstrated leadership through academic and extracurricular activities in making a difference in the lives of others in your community. Explain how these activities make you a suitable candidate (maximum one-page)
  • Submit the completed application, with all three components, to Carleton Awards and Financial Aid at awards@carleton.ca
