Tamara Gordon Foundation Scholarship

The Tamara Gordon Foundation Scholarship is awarded to students who are studying at an accredited university or college in Ontario, and have a physical disability.

The Tamara Gordon Foundation was established in 2013 to assist students with permanent physical disabilities who wish to pursue the completion of an educational field of study.

Criteria

In order to be considered eligible for the above scholarship, students must be:

  • a Canadian citizen, resident, or a landed immigrant;
  • a Grade 12 student in the province of Ontario, or a student already enrolled in a post-secondary program and looking to advance to either year 2, 3, 4, or onwards;
  • enrolled in a program at an Ontario University that is a member of Universities Canada or one of Ontario’s 24 Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology for the 2026  /2027 academic year;
  • demonstrative of having a spinal cord injury;
  • demonstrative of financial need;

Please note that this award is highly competitive, and therefore, academic standing and volunteering will be significant decision factors for the Selection Committee. Awards are granted on an annual basis, and a recipient in good standing may have their award renewed at the discretion of the Selection Committee through re-application.

Along with the completed application form, applicants must also submit:

  • a proof of status in Canada (citizen or landed immigrant). This is only for first-time applicants;
  • a confirmation / documentation of enrollment in one of the foregoing academic institutions for the 2026/2027 academic year. This is only for first-time applicants;
  • a copy of the letter of acceptance from the College/University that the applicant will be attending for the 2026/2027 academic year (1st year students only);
  • an official (original) transcript from the applicant’s most recently completed post-secondary academic year or a copy of the applicant’s final grade 12 report card (1st year students only);
  • two (2) strong letters of recommendation, an academic reference and a character reference. This is only for first-time applicants;
  • a physician’s letter setting out details of the applicant’s disability;
  • an original one-page, single-spaced essay describing the permanent physical disability, the applicant’s academic and career goals, the applicant’s future career aspirations, and the reasons why the applicant feels he or she should be selected. This is only for first-time applicants;
  • a summary of costs for transportation, tuition, textbooks, and other materials for the academic year;
  • a list of extracurricular activities, specifying start and end dates for each activity (e.g, school involvement, community volunteer work, arts, sports, and TGF activities);
  • a brief biographical paragraph about the applicant and his/her disability (not more than 100 words) to be used in the reception program if they are selected for a Scholarship award;
  • a passport-size photograph (to be used for TGF publications if the applicant is selected for a Scholarship award);
