The Thomas Sorensen Memorial Scholarship is available to students registered with the Paul Menton Centre at Carleton University.

The Thomas Sorensen Memorial Scholarship was established by the Sorensen family to honour the legacy of their son, Thomas Sorensen. A Carleton University student from 2013-2014, Thomas had big dreams and was a true advocate for persons with disabilities. He devoted countless hours volunteering and fundraising for various charitable organizations and would never turn down an opportunity to educate anyone who was willing to listen.
Criteria
Applicants must:
- be a Canadian citizen
- be starting their first year of study or proceeding from one year to another in any undergraduate program of study at Carleton University
- be registered with the Paul Menton Centre (PMC)
- have a permanent disability
- have good academic standing
- be passionate about advocating for disabilities
- volunteer or fundraise for organizations that help persons with disabilities
Awarded with the recommendation of the Paul Menton Centre.
How to Apply
- Fill out the Thomas Sorensen Memorial Scholarship application form
- Submit a short essay describing who you are, what you are studying, and how you plan to carry out the legacy of Thomas Sorensen
- No specific length is required but applicants will be encouraged to provide photos of them being involved in these types of activities
- Provide one letter of reference
- Submit the application directly to Carleton Awards and Financial Aid at awards@carleton.ca with the scholarship title included in the subject line OR mail the application to the address listed on the application form
