Learning Disabilities Association of New Brunswick Scholarship

The Learning Disabilities Association of New Brunswick (LDANB) offers an annual scholarship to a student from New Brunswick who is enrolling, or continuing, post-secondary studies, and has a learning disability.

The Learning Disabilities Association of New Brunswick (LDANB) is a charitable organization founded in 1970. LDANB exists to support New Brunswick residents living with learning disabilities, and its mission is to promote the understanding and acceptance of the ability of persons with learning disabilities to lead meaningful and successful lives.

Criteria

In order to be considered eligible for the above scholarship, students must be:

  • a resident of New Brunswick with proof of residency (ie. driver’s license, provincial ID, or Medicare card);
  • formally diagnosed with a learning disability, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia / written expression disorder, and / or dyscalculia;
  • in possession of a proof of diagnosis;

Please note that conditions which may co-occur with learning disabilities (ie. ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, anxiety and / or depression, communication disorders and intellectual disabilities) will not qualify for this award.

How to Apply

Along with the completed application form, applicants must also submit:

  • their proof of diagnosis. This may be one of the following:
    • a letter from a high school Resource Teacher or post-secondary Student Services office;
    • a diagnostic statement from a psychoeducational assessment;
  • a personal essay (500-800 words) which covers any of the following topics:
    • How having a learning disability has impacted your life
    • Obstacles you have overcome in your education or personal life
    • Accomplishments you are proud to have achieved as a person with a learning disability

Please note that other creative submissions (such as a video, artwork, or a creative writing piece) may also be accepted.
