Overview
The Government of Yukon provides financial support for students with disabilities who are studying at post-secondary institutions.
This includes:
- Yukon Grant (for full-time students)
- Canada Student Loans and Grants (federal programs)
- Additional disability-related grants for equipment and services
Yukon Grant (Full-Time Students)
The Yukon Grant helps Yukon residents pay for post-secondary education when studying full-time at a designated institution.
Eligibility
- Who can apply for the Yukon Grant
- Combining Yukon Grant with Student Training Allowance
- Receiving student financial assistance from more than one funding source
- Eligibility for student financial assistance in other jurisdictions
You may qualify if:
- You are a Yukon resident
- You are enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program
- Your institution recognizes your program as full-time
Schools may define “full-time” differently. Always confirm with your institution.
Students with Disabilities (Important Note)
If you have a permanent disability:
- Your school may allow a reduced course load
- You may still be considered “full-time” for funding purposes

Canada Student Financial Assistance Overview
- Loans are based on financial need
- Grants do not need to be repaid
- You must apply through Yukon’s student aid office
Important: There are several types of grants available to full-time students. To be eligible for any of the grants, you must first qualify for a loan, even if you choose not to take it.
Disability-Related Grants
1. Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities
- $2,000 per loan year
- Helps students with permanent disabilities pay for education
Proof required (one of the following):
- Medical certificate
- Psycho-educational assessment
- Proof of disability-related government benefits
2. Grant for Services and Equipment
- Up to $8,000 per loan year
- Helps pay for extra disability-related supports, such as:
- Tutors
- Note-takers
- Braille materials
- Assistive technology (e.g., voice software)
Requirements:
- Medical or school confirmation of need
- Approval of specific services/equipment
- Receipts must be submitted at the end of the school year
Part-Time Students
You may qualify for part-time student loans if:
- You are taking less than 40% of a full course load (for disability definitions)
- You are not in full-time post-secondary studies Funding
- Up to $10,000 in Canada Student Loans (part-time students)
Apply through the province/territory where you last lived for 12 months while not studying full-time.
