EDC DiversABILITY Community Leader Scholarship 2025

EDC DiversABILITY Community Leader Scholarship for 2025 is open to students who identify as having a disability (visible or invisible) and are pursuing post-secondary studies at a Canadian institution for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Export Development Canada (EDC) is a Crown corporation dedicated to helping Canadian companies of all sizes grow their business at the international level, by equipping them with tools they need in: trade knowledge, financial solutions, equity, insurance, and connections.

EDC offer scholarships to students studying International Business; and seven scholarships to students who model community leadership, this represents EDC’s inclusive, diverse and equitable workforce. Each scholarship is worth $5,000.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for EDC DiversABILITY Community Leader Scholarship 2025, the student must:

  • Be able to provide their Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN) for tax purposes.
  • Identify as a person with a visible or invisible disability.
  • Be pursuing studies at a Canadian college, university, or CEGEP for the 2025/2026 academic year (proof of enrolment will be required).
  • Have a minimum of 70% average for the most recent academic term.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership in creating opportunities and/or removing barriers for persons with disabilities in one or more of the following areas:
    • Community advocacy/support;
    • Education;
    • Volunteering;
    • Extra-curricular activities;
    • Memberships;
    • Associations;
    • Entrepreneurship;
    • Work experience.

Required Documents

All applicants must submit:

  1. A Letter of Intent
    • Maximum 1,000 words. It can be a written response (letter) or a 3–5 minute video or voice clip.
    • Your written letter, video, or audio must provide:
      • Information about yourself.
      • A brief description of your experience living with a visible or invisible disability.
      • Description of your leadership in creating opportunities and/or removing barriers for persons with disabilities.
      • Your future goals.
      • Details on how this funding would benefit you.

  1. A Reference Letter
    • Have maximum 500 words.
    • Signed by a community member, professor/teacher, your employer, mentor/coach, or individual who is not related to you who is familiar with your community involvement.
    • Your reference provider must declare their relationship to you and include their contact information.
  2. An official transcript from your most recent academic term, including the grading system specific to your school.
  3. Preference will be given to an applicant who:
    1. Advocates/involved in policy change related to creating opportunities and/or removing barriers for persons with disabilities.
    2. Is a recipient of awards or honours (academic, community or other).
