MacDonald Family Scholarship

The MacDonald Family Scholarship is awarded to a student who is entering their first year of an undergraduate or graduate program in Ontario, and has a parent with autism.

The above scholarship commemorates Carole Ann MacDonald, the very first member of the Board of Directors of Autism Ontario with an autism diagnosis.

Criteria

In order to be considered eligible for the above scholarship, students must be:

  • a resident of Ontario;
  • accepted or entering their first year of an undergraduate / post-graduate / apprenticeship program at an accredited college / university in Canada;
  • a child of an individual who has autism;

Please note that students can apply as often as they wish, provided they are in their first year of a post-secondary program. Students can only receive an Autism Ontario scholarship once.

How to Apply

Along with the completed application form, applicants must also submit:

  • recent academic transcript(s) covering the last two years of study;
  • a copy of the parent’s diagnosis from a medical / psychological professional;
  • copy of the letter of admission / proof of enrollment (ie. an early acceptance letter) from a post-secondary institution;
  • a cover letter, which should provide the following:
    • Information about future goals and/ or career pathways, related directly or indirectly to autism;
    • Description of post-secondary course (any course of study will be considered; however, some weight will be given to educational and career interests that relate to autism);
    • Full contact information (ie. name, address, phone number, and email address). A social insurance number will be required only if you are awarded a scholarship, in which you will be contacted;
