Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Permanent Disabilities (CSG-PDSE)
Students with permanent disabilities can apply for the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Permanent Disabilities (CSG-PDSE) through the Newfoundland and Labrador Integrated Student Financial Assistance Program.
In addition to qualifying for the Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities, students who incur education-related costs due to their disability may be eligible for this funding.
The CSG-PDSE provides up to $20,000 per academic year (August 1 to July 31) for eligible full-time or part-time students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies, provided eligibility requirements continue to be met.
This grant is separate from other forms of student financial assistance and is intended to help offset disability-related education expenses, including approved services and equipment required to support academic participation.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the CSG-PDSE and, where applicable, the Grant for High Need Students with Permanent Disabilities, students must:
- Be eligible for the Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities;
- Identify barriers or limitations related to their disability that affect their ability to participate in studies or complete required daily academic activities;
- Not be in default on a Canada Student Loan;
- Demonstrate financial need through a Student Aid application for full-time or part-time studies; and
- Be enrolled in a post-secondary program at a designated institution as a full-time or part-time student.
Students are encouraged to apply for grants for services and equipment at the same time they apply for Student Aid.
Application deadlines:
- For programs or semesters lasting 12 weeks or longer: applications must be submitted within eight weeks of the start of classes.
- For programs or semesters lasting less than 12 weeks: applications must be submitted within two weeks of the first day of classes.
Additional information on deadlines, funding, eligible services and equipment, and application requirements is available through the provincial student financial assistance website.
Grant for High Need Students with Permanent Disabilities
The Grant for High Need Students with Permanent Disabilities provides additional funding to help cover disability-related education expenses that exceed the amount available through the CSG-PDSE.
Students are automatically assessed for this grant when they submit the Application for Grants for Services and Equipment for Students with Permanent Disabilities. If approved, funding is disbursed in the same manner as the CSG-PDSE.
Further details regarding deadlines, applications, eligible services and equipment, and funding disbursement are available through Newfoundland and Labrador Student Financial Assistance resources.
