Financial Assistance for Nunavut Students
The Financial Assistance for Nunavut Students (FANS) program provides financial support to Nunavut students attending approved post-secondary education and training programs.
FANS helps ensure that financial need is not a barrier to accessing higher education opportunities. The program is administered under Nunavut’s Student Financial Assistance Act and Regulations.

Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities
FANS offers a Disability Grant to assist students with permanent disabilities who are pursuing post-secondary studies. The grant helps cover exceptional education-related costs associated with a permanent disability.
Eligible students may apply for this grant at any time during the academic year.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must provide:
- A medical assessment or learning ability assessment completed by a qualified professional; and
- Documentation describing how the disability impacts their ability to fully participate in post-secondary studies.
Grant Coverage
The Disability Grant may provide up to $8,000 per academic year for equipment and services directly related to a student’s education. Eligible supports may include:
- Tutors
- Interpreters
- Note-takers
- Attendant care
- Specialized equipment and services
This grant does not need to be repaid.
Additional Information
Students are required to complete a new application for each academic year. Funding is issued once proof of enrollment has been received and processed by FANS.
