AddictionResource.net is passionate about supporting higher education, to help students enrolled at a post-secondary institution reach their goals. The aim for Addiction Resource scholarship essay contest is to support collage and university students in reaching their educational goal and to give back to the community at large. AddictionResource.net mission is to equip people living with substance use disorder and their loved ones with resources and knowledge about mental health and substance abuse they would need to achieve lasting recovery.
Criteria
Applicants must be:
- A student pursuing a college or university degree (associate, bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate) or a trade certification in a technical college
- Be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution
- 18 years or older at the time of scholarship contest application
Essay Submission Topic & Guidelines
- Write an original essay about the connection between substance use and mental health among college/university students.
- include personal experiences with substance use and mental health on your college/university campus, if applicable.
- Examples of questions you might consider answering:

- How do mental health issues and substance use correlate?
- What are the risk factors for mental illness and substance misuse among college students?
- What are the rates of substance use disorder among college students?

When submitting
Your Essay Must Be:
- Your own original work
- No longer than 1,200 words
- Judgment guidelines: content quality, degree of originality, completeness, and relevancy to the topic
- Submitted by April 12, 2024
- Scholarship award announcement: April 19, 2024
- Scholarship will be awarded for the Summer 2024 semester: Granted directly to the university through the financial aid department
The use of AI software, such as ChatGPT, IS NOT permitted. Each submission will be tested for originality to detect AI-generated work.
How to Apply
All applicants must:
- Meet all eligibility requirements.
- Craft an original essay.
- Submit the essay via email to scholarship@addictionresource.net with the subject line titled: “Scholarship Essay Submission”.
- Include the following information in the email: Name, Age, Preferred email and Name of university/college institution.
Winners will be notified by email.
The winning essays will be uploaded on AddictionResource.net and will be used to raise awareness about mental health issues among students on post-secondary institution campuses.
